KVPY exam is now discontinued from 2022. Department of Science and Technology (DST) has decided to merge KVPY with INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research ) Programme. Although previous KVPY Fellows will get their fellowships according to DST norms. KVPY was created by DST (Department of Science and Technology) and Its Fellows are funded by it through a National level Examination.
NEW Eligibility Criteria for KVPY merged with INSPIRE Fellowship Programme
- 1. Students who have completed their Post-Graduation studies in a science subject, will be eligible for merged with the newly KVPY merged with INSPIRE Fellowship Programme.
- 2. Student should have passed their Post Graduation with a minimum of 70% marks or equivalent CGPA to be eligible for this fellowship.
- 1. Applicants who are the First Rank holder and completed their Post Graduation from UGC recognized institution or University.
- 2. Applicant should have completed their Post-graduation in pharmacy, engineering, veterinary, or agricultural sciences.

Now, eligible students can apply for internships, scholarships, and scholarships on a single platform on the newly KVPY merged with INSPIRE Fellowship Programme.

"DST has decided to subsume KVPY with INSPIRE. KVPY Aptitude test will not be conducted from the year 2022 onwards. Ongoing KVPY fellows will continue to receive fellowship as per norms from DST."
Why DST has canceled KVPY and announced to merge with INSPIRE Fellowship Programme.
Below are a few reasons why DST canceled KVPY-
- Department of Science and Technology (DST) officials state say that they have canceled the KVPY due to the high cost spent on conducting the examination.
- Money saved from scrapping the KVPY examination will be used to start 300 new Fellowships.
- The operational cost exceeded the KVPY Fellowships which are given by KVPY to science background students.
- The majority of students use the KVPY exam as a preparatory tool for NEET or JEE exams. But KVPY is created for the purpose of a research program in the area of science.
- DST wants to target the group of Ph.D. students with science backgrounds which fits to encourage research students.
What will happen to current KVPY Fellows?
According to the official statement of DST current KVPY Fellowships will be continued as per DST norms.
